When people discover Restoring Her Strength, they sometimes ask how it began.
The answer surprises them.
It didn’t begin with a website.
It didn’t begin with a ministry plan.
It didn’t even begin with a desire to write.
It began with the realization that I couldn’t rebuild my life by trying harder.
A Life of Survival
For years, survival had become normal.
Like many people who have lived through difficult seasons, I learned how to keep going. I carried responsibilities. I stayed busy. I solved the next problem. I pushed through exhaustion because there always seemed to be one more thing demanding my attention.
From the outside, life kept moving.
But beneath the surface, years of abuse, fear, unhealthy beliefs, and constant survival had left deeper wounds than I realized.
I didn’t need another productivity system.
I didn’t need more discipline.
I needed God to rebuild parts of me that I couldn’t reach on my own.
I just didn’t know it yet.
A Moment of Desperation
One weekend became a turning point.
My relationship felt fragile, and I honestly thought it might be ending. During one conversation, I became painfully aware that neither of us was simply dealing with the present. We were both carrying wounds that had been shaping us for years.
I remember thinking that this was bigger than either of us.
I wasn’t looking for a ministry.
I wasn’t looking for something to write about.
I was simply looking for help.
The next day, I sat down and opened my Bible.
Later that day, I sent a text message.
“I did something scary.”
He replied,
“What did you do?”
I answered,
“Opened my Bible.”
At the time, I had no idea how significant that simple decision would become.
I wasn’t planning a long-term study.
I wasn’t planning to fill binders with notes.
I wasn’t trying to create resources for anyone else.
I was simply a woman who had reached the point where she knew she couldn’t keep rebuilding herself the same way she always had.
When God Began Revealing What Was Hidden
As I continued studying, something unexpected happened.
The Bible wasn’t simply giving me information.
It was exposing patterns I had never noticed before.
I had expected Bible study to change what I knew. I hadn’t expected it to begin changing me, something I first wrote about in Nobody Warned Me Bible Study Could Do This.
I began recognizing how often I measured my worth by performance.
I began seeing how years of stress had shaped my habits.
I realized how often I had mistaken constant striving for faithfulness.
Little by little, God began uncovering things that had been hidden beneath years of survival.
Around the same time, other changes were happening too.
I started taking my health more seriously.
When unhealthy ways of coping began disappearing, emotions I had buried for years started surfacing instead.
For a while, I responded the only way I knew how.
I stayed busy.
Eventually, even that stopped working.
Exhaustion forced me to slow down.
When life became quieter, I expected to find peace immediately.
Instead, I found questions.
Those questions led me back to Scripture.
The Turning Point
Looking back now, I can finally see a pattern I couldn’t see then.
Health led to uncomfortable emotions.
The emotions led to exhaustion.
Exhaustion created space.
The space led to deeper questions.
The questions led me into God’s Word.
And God’s Word led me into a deeper work of restoration than I ever expected.
At the time, none of those moments felt extraordinary.
They simply felt like one small decision after another.
But looking back, I can see that God was gently changing the direction of my life.
Not all at once.
Not by removing every struggle.
But by teaching me to stop surviving and begin rebuilding.
The Beginning of Restoring Her Strength
That’s why I no longer believe this journey began with a website or a ministry.
Those things came later.
The journey began the moment I became willing to admit I needed more than another solution.
I needed the God who restores.
Restoring Her Strength was never born out of having everything figured out.
It was born out of recognizing how much I needed God to rebuild what years of trauma, fear, and survival had damaged.
Looking back, I can see that He had already begun that work long before I realized where it would lead.
And I have a feeling He’s still just getting started.
With hope,
Raven
